Should my scheduled virus scan run on the partition of my hard drive with recovery files?
I just switched from Norton AV to Avast!.
Avast! requires that I set what areas to scan. This laptop is running on Vista Home Premium, and has a ‘D:’ drive for recovery files. Should I make the scan run on this hard disk partition?
yes for your answer.
Avast should scan the entire comp.

What is the best app for file recovery from a formatted hard drive?
well, I have a large hard drive from which I need to make a recovery, it has been formatted..a while ago and I want to recover it’s files….I already tried "Get Data Back" and it didnt work, is there anything better than that?
I am asking specifically about the performance of "get data back" compared to other programs, I do not need clarification on the factors that favor recovering the files
Depends upon how long ago, and more importantly how much usage the computer has seen since then.
If the drive was formatted a month ago but never had anything written to it, and has been sitting unused in a closet since then- recovery programs have an excellent chance.
If the system has been used regularly since then and had programs installed and files saved, recovery chances go down the drain because areas of the hard disk containing those old files have now been overwritten with different data.
You might try Pandora Recovery or Final Recovery- those are pretty good but subject to the same restrictions mentioned above.
