Also, just in case things go horribly wrong, make a backup copy of your hard drive and keep the backup copy someplace safe.

    I’ve got a better …
I’ve got a better idea: take the device that looks like a CD out of the casing, buy a new case, and put the disk in there.

    yea, if they can’t …
yea, if they can’t read data anymore it means they’re FUCKED. broken. you name it. touching the plates wile changing them and you’ll say bye bye to your data. any minute electrical charge on your hands will erase all data on it, or at least make it unrecoverable. don’t talk if you’re clueless about something, or just read on some freakin forums

    so you dropped it …
so you dropped it does it work and or run? because the chip on it is what identifies it and runs it you could have dislodged your disk or your motor arms but hitachis are notorious for having the clicks

  • RamiroR says:

    hmm, well, if you …
hmm, well, if you have much experience… and I’m already commenting this :P
I have this hitachi HDD that accidentally FELL (I freaked out when it happened) and now it is not being properly recognised.. (It does recognise that it is set up as a master drive, but it doesn’t get the model, and I can’t access it)
    which is pretty weird IMO

god are you retarted what part of not all hard drives STOP working dont you understand some hard drive usaly 2/3rds of them just cant read or write data anymore and you can just boot off and unbuntu boot disk and capture all your files and save it to an extenal hd and if that dosent work its not hard to take apart a hdd

  • RamiroR says:

What is so hard to …
What is so hard to understand?! This is for VERY worh data. Something that may be more expensive than the HDD recovery itself…
    Get it?

  • PAC0TAC0 says:

    not all hdd just …
not all hdd just STOP working sometimes they just have a read write error not always when a hd breaks does it mean its not usiable for data and not its not worth to pay just open it yourself and switch disk with another hd

  • RamiroR says:

    No, you’re not …
No, you’re not getting it. That is for HDDs that ARE NOT OPERABLE ANYMORE. It’s not about what OS you are using to recover the data. It’s a mechanical fail, and Zaharlk is right. This is for information that is worth to pay for…
